What 6.1 oz actually means

Fabric weight is measured per square yard, and it is the single most useful number on a spec sheet. Budget promotional tees sit around 4.2 to 4.5 oz. Standard retail lands near 5 oz. At 6.1 oz, or 206.8 grams per square metre, this cotton is roughly a third heavier than the average tee, and you can feel the difference in the hand before you put it on.

What the extra weight buys you

Opacity, first: light colours do not go translucent. Structure, second: the shirt has more body than a thin tee and follows the body less closely. Durability, third: heavier yarn resists thinning at the shoulders and hem, which is where cheap tees fail.

Heavy without being stiff

The usual trade-off with thick cotton is that it feels like canvas for the first month. Garment dyeing removes that. Because the finished shirt is dyed under heat and agitation, it comes out already softened, so you get the weight without the break-in period.

Frequently asked questions

How heavy is 6.1 oz compared to a normal tee?

About a third heavier. Standard retail tees are around 5 oz and promotional blanks around 4.5 oz.

Is a heavyweight tee too hot for summer?

Ring-spun cotton breathes well, so it stays comfortable. It is noticeably more substantial than a thin tee, not warmer in the way a synthetic would be.

Is it stiff at first?

No. Garment dyeing softens the cotton during production, so it arrives already broken in.

Does heavyweight cotton shrink more?

Not here, since it is pre-shrunk. Wash cold and dry low.

Why does weight matter for oversized fits?

Heavier fabric has more body, so a roomier size tends to hang less limply than a thin tee. The fit itself depends on the size you choose, so check the Size Guide measurements.
